MMS received a 2016 Target Field Trip Grant of $700. This money will be used to give our Theatre Production classes a professional tour of the Curtain Theatre. The Curtain Theatre, located just 5 miles from MMS, is a working replica of Shakespeare's historic Globe Theatre- a wonderful open-air venue - on the shores of the Colorado River.
This is part of the new MMS Theatre mission to bring Shakespeare to Murchison. This semester 6th grade Production classes will perform the play A Midsummer Night's Dream and will host special workshops with professional company Austin Shakespeare.

Congratulations to the Boys Soccer Team for an outstanding season! They played an outstanding match against Small at the city final but unfortunately were defeated 3-2... Murchison was the City Runner - Up. Goals were scored by Aaron Shulle and Ben Milam.

Outstanding Business Students Travel to Corpus Christi to Participate at the Business Professionals of America State Leadership Conference
Top students from Murchison MS will be attending the Business Professionals of America 2016 State Leadership Conference, in Corpus Christi, Texas, March 2-5, 2016.
Murchison MS chapter members, Adelaide Armin, Nick Sebesta, Doree Parra, Dayne Ware, Logan Johnson, John Duncan, Ferris Whitney, Mitchel Worob, Brom Ramon, Ava Kool and Tony Nguyen will join over 2,500 other conference delegates from across the state to participate in state level business skill competitions, general sessions, and the state officer candidate campaigns and elections. Besides having the opportunity to excel, they’ll experience Corpus Christi as they visit the city’s exciting sites.
“Students from the Texas Association’s Regional Leadership Conference have qualified to participate at the state level conference. The conference emphasizes business workforce education and training which members of the local chapter of Business Professionals of America at Murchison MS have received,” said chapter advisor, Teri L. Bolin, who taught Career Technical Education courses at MMS for 13 years. “I am so proud of all of these students they have worked very hard this year. It takes a dedicated and self-directed student to get to this level and beyond.”
Business Professionals of America is a national organization for middle school, high school, and college students preparing for careers in business and office occupations. The organization’s activities and programs complement classroom instruction by giving students practical experience through application of the skills learned at school. Business Professionals of America acts as a cohesive agent in the nationwide networking of education and business and industry, and is contributing to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills.

Congratulations to Thomas De Fuente, a 7th grader has qualified to compete in the state level competition of the National Geographic Bee. The Texas State Bee will be held on Friday, April 1st. One champion from each state will advance to the national competition which will be held May 22-25 at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C. This is the first time in history that a Murchison student has qualified to compete at the state level. Best of luck to Thomas’ success in the Texas State Bee!

Three 8th grade Murchison robotics teams competed in the South Texas state final on Saturday in the Houston area and did a fantastic job! All three teams showed good communication, professionalism and competitiveness at the highest competitive level in the state. Texas has many of the best VEX programs in the USA and two of our teams advanced to the quarter finals and almost went to the semi-finals. The alliance in the final round was made up of two Murchison teams and their team spirit and trust in their fellow classmates led them to win an award. The 8th grade all-female team, 8512B, won the Energy Award for the most professional, cohesive, and passionate VEX middle school team.

The Murchison Orchestras performed in the Middle School String Orchestra UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest this Wednesday and Thursday with great success! The Philharmonic Orchestra earned a plaque for their superior performance on the concert stage. Both the Symphonic and Concert Orchestras earned a sweepstakes trophy for superior performances on the concert stage and in the sight-reading room. Congratulations Murchison Orchestra students!

All 3 MMS bands: Symphonic, Concert, and Wind Ensemble went to UIL and received a perfect score of superiors which wins them the Sweepstakes award for concert and sight reading!! All Bands made Sweepstakes at UIL this year!

Congratulations to our 7th and 8th grade choirs for their outstanding performances at UIL Concert & Sightreading Contest this past week. Both Chorale Men and Chorale Women earned Sweepstakes with superior ratings from all judges in both Concert and Sightreading. Our Treble Choir earned a Division 1 - Superior rating in Concert and a Division 2 - Excellent rating in Sightreading. Mr. Martin and Mrs. McDaniel are very proud of our singers!

Will Fonken was the only participant from the state of Texas in his age group for Pop Warner football to be First Team Academic All American last year. Not to be outdone, first time football player Mike Wagner joined Will as a first team Academic All American this year. Only thirty-five kids per age group from across the country receive this honor, and we have two of them right here at Murchison. Together, Mike and Will are the only two participants in ANY age group from the entire state of Texas to receive this honor this year. Will went to Summit Elementary and Mike went to Doss Elementary.

Ms. Edward's 6th grade students competed in this past Saturday's JR VASE UIL event. They all received the highest score. 11 of 13 entries received the highest score in their division. Mr. Gibbon's 7th & 8th grade 31 artworks entered and 27 received a superior rating of 4! One student received the silver key, which means the artwork was in the top 1% of division 2! Ms. Escamilla's 8th grade at JrVASE this Saturday. We are very proud of all of our students who participated! Many students received the highest score of 4 and a medal and one student who received 2 perfect scores PLUS a silver star on her piece!

Congratulations to 8th grader, Supriti Parajuli who WON 1st place in the Travis County Do the Write Thing essay competition. Her essay, Youth Violence: The effects, the causes, and the solutions, was selected out of over 3600 essays submitted by 20 different middle schools in our area! This June, Supriti, along with her teacher, Mrs. Worob, will represent Travis County will be honored at a national recognition ceremony in Washington, D.C. The National Campaign to Stop Violence and the Kuwait-America Foundation. In addition, Supriti's essay will be published and placed in the Library of Congress.

This past Friday and Saturday, 15 of our Latin Matadors attended the Texas State Junior Classical League’s Tournament at Atascocita High School in Humble, TX. There they competed in academic, speaking, mythology, Olympic sport, art and costume competitions.
With over 2,000 students in attendance representing nearly 100 different schools, Murchison had some very tough competition! That said, Murchison's Latin Club took home 18 ribbons and 1 trophy! This is a HUGE accomplishment for our school!
These students worked very hard at studying, memorizing and prepping for their competitions. If you have any of these students in your classes, please take a moment to congratulate them! They would LOVE some recognition for their hard work! Results and a few pictures are posted below.
